Style Stalking: Alexis

It's that time again. Style Stalk Fridays, which is starting to become my favorite day of the week. I love to bring you guys new inspiration each and every Friday. This Friday I am stalking and up and coming stylist & online vintage boutique owner Alexis.

Alexis uses her eye for vintage to put together amazing looks on her online thriftique. Usually I am after the individuals personal style, but I feel like @bessiemarieloft is a reflection of her style. I am a lover of all things vintage and Alexis definitely has an eye for amazing pieces. She is also an aspiring fashion blogger, you can follow her personal page @callherbella_

1. When did you fall in love with fashion?

For as long as I can remember, I've been a lover of fashion. With fashion, the possibilities are endless, and rules don't exist. I believe that fashion is the art of making clearance look couture, and thrifted look tailored. You simply create your own lane, and make them come through you. I love it!

2. Who/What are your fashion inspirations?

Some of my favorite fashion inspirations are Style Blogger Soraya De Carvalho (@styleismything); Celebrity Fashion Stylist Olori Swank (@oloriswank); Folake Huntoon of StylePantry (@stylepantry).

3. How would you describe your style?

My style is very classic, yet fashion forward. Edgy and artsy. Vintage inspired, but with a modern day twist. I tend to ignore labels, as I think of myself as a "frugal fashionista." My look is very eccentric. I guess you can say that instead of trying to fit in, I've "fashioned" myself.

Va Fashion Week: Oct 5-Oct 12 2014

As we all know New York just wrapped up their fashion week, which only could mean one thing! Yes! It's time for Va Fashion Week, which happens to be in it's 8th year.  Places like Virginia get passed up for bigger metropolitan areas all the time thinking that no creative juices flow within the state walls. Well Va Fashion Week is here to prove that way of thinking couldn't be further from the truth. We are making our mark in a major way!!

This year certainly promises to be a full of amazing designers & other talented Hampton Roads natives. I am truly looking forward to seeing everyone on the runway. Virginia is filled with amazingly talented people and VAFW is one way that we showcase it. Make sure to get your tickets, you don't want to miss this! Visit www.vafashionweek.net to purchase your tickets.

Tracee Ellis Ross in Black-ish

So if you guys don't know you should....... Tracee Ellis Ross is my ultimate icon. I live for her warm and endearing spirit. She represents women so well and we should all hope to be so graceful. As you all should know Tracee Ellis Ross daughter of Diana Ross is due to premiere her new sitcom tonight on ABC at 9:30pm EDT.

Along side her co-star Anthony Anderson the sitcom address issues of race, social status & how African Americans remain Black-ish in the light of their successes.

Tracee is famously known for her role as Joan Clayton on The CW's hit show Girlfriends, a successful attorney trying to find love & balance while sharing every moment with her "Girlfriends"

Since the ending of Girlfriends Tracee has done many amazing things with her time. She has created a community were women can come and connect and learn how to be more comfortable with who they are. I cannot think of a more intriguing woman of our generation. I wish her nothing but success and maybe in this lifetime I will actually get to sit down and have a heart to heart with her. (wishful thinking, but hey can't a girl dream)

Who else will be tuning in tonight? I will be discussing my thoughts on my face book fanpage naturalallurememoirs

Makeup Mondays: Featuring Arielle Ash

Happy Monday Loves. I wish you all an amazing week! I am so excited to bring you a new series on the blog called makeup Mondays. I have collaborated with professional makeup artist Ariell Ash better known as Rollinwithstone to bring you some of the hottest & latest makeup trends. She will also be informing us of new products and giving her professional opinion.

Born and raised in Houston and Dallas, Texas, Ariell’s career began to soar after working for Nars Cosmetics in Arkansas and MAC cosmetics in Texas as a makeup artist at the top stores. Her popularity grew once she started holding private makeup workshops for Houston’s top working women and housewives, eventually making her the go-to person for tips, sessions and appointments. Word spread faster, and she eventually began doing makeup for television and radio personalities, reality show stars, models and photographers. Ariell’s vast knowledge of makeup and light teamed with her teaching skills in the arts make her irreplaceable when creating looks for today’s woman.

This Monday Rollinwithstone will be sharing with us the importance of using a primer:

Rollinwithstone:
Primers are very important because they help your make up last longer, reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores, gives a smoother foundation application, and some of them even help control oil and mattify. Some primers offer certain benefits that others do not, when looking for a primer you should choose one that offers benefits that suit your face needs.

Recently I've tried Smashbox  photo ready primer and I was thoroughly pleased with the results that I got from it.

www.smashbox.com
This particular primer comes in different color correcting formulas. I used the formula shown above. Personally what I look for in a primer is one that helps my foundation last all day and mattify at least a little bit because I do have sort of an oily T zone area. When I use the primer I applied it at 7:30 AM when I did my make up. When I got off at 7:30 PM my make up was still flawless and I had no traces of oil and hadn't touched up my make up at all throughout the day. This was the first time that this has happened being that usually 4 to 5 hours into wearing my make up I have oil in my T zone area. I would definitely give this product two thumbs up!

Another primer that I recently used was Tarte's Clean slate primer.

www.tartecosmetics.com
This primer was fairly good also it kept my make up on long throughout the day, although unlike the Smashbox primer I did have to touch up my foundation after about 4 to 5 hours because I became oily in my T zone. With primer, of course what works for one person may not work for another. So I would encourage you to try a couple of primers yourself to see which one works best for you.

Make sure that you follow Ariell for more makeup tips & tricks. You can find her here each and every Monday sharing her wealth of information for your make up enjoyment!

OOTD: Tamar Braxton concert

This weekend was very exciting for me, I went to go see Tamar Braxton on her stop in Hampton Roads on her Love & War tour.

It has been a very long time since I have been motivated to go and see anyone in concert, but there is something about Tamar that is captivating. She has carved out her own path in the tumultuous music industry. Along with all the obstacles of a being an artist trying to establish themselves, she has the shadow of her Grammy award winning sister Toni Braxton. Even with all of the odds against her Tamar has managed to not only solidify her position in the music industry she is also part of a new talk show called The Real which premiered September 15th.

With all that being said about the Braxton Family Values star, lets move on to what I wore:

Of course everytime you get your hair done it has to rain right?? Despite all the rain & the fog I still managed to get to the show outfit still in tact. When I saw these pants at H&M I had to have them, harem pants are still very much a trend. I love the material, it look heavy but it is very light. My shirt came from H&M as well, I love a comfy t-shirt and lately I have been in love with these chic tees, so I jumped on this hunter green one when I saw it. My necklace & rings also came from H&M. Shoes are from lolashoetique.com & my bad is from justfab.com.

I am so enjoying my new long hair don't care look. I am rocking two packs of First Remi hair 14" in the color 1. Stay tuned for my video review of this hair.

And of course you know that I could not go and see my girl without being beat for the GODS yassssss...lol

It was an amazing night, I truly enjoyed myself. Tamar was every beat entertaining as she is on tv.

Who else had a chance to go and see Tamar? What did you think of the show?

Artist spotlight: Nail tech, Galesha Smith

Top of the week to you, I hope everyone is doing well. I had an amazing weekend and I will post in regards to that later in the week. I wanted to bring you guys a person that I recently met and she left such an expression on me that I had to get her on my artist spotlight. Over the past year I have been on the hunt for the perfect nail tech, trust me it is no easy feat. If you live in the Hampton Roads area you can relate to exactly what I've been going through. I have found some that I love (she moved) and some that I will never let touch my nails again. Long story short my nail tech hunt has lead me to the talented Galesha smith a.k.a @nailsbygrenee.

One of the first things that caught my attention about her work is how neat everyone's cuticles were. If you are like me I can live without designs and all the fancies, but I cannot compromise when it comes to quality.  Don't just take my word for it have a look at some of her work.

I got a chance to interview her and here is what she had to say:

Naturalallure:  How did you get started as a nail specialist ?

Galesha: I first was introduced to nails when I was in high school taking up Cosmetology as an elective. The nail art came naturally and all my classmates would come up with a lot of crazy prints and designs for me to recreate.
Naturalallure:  What services do you offer?

Galesha: I offer anything nail related such as acrylics, gels, manicures, and most importantly pedicures.

Naturalallure:  Why do you think people leave traditional nail shops?

Galesha: I think most people leave traditional nail shops because of the lack of patience when it comes to making sure that one client gets your full and undivided attention. Either they get rushed due to a next customer walking in or passed off to someone you wouldn't rather pick to do your nails. I'm all about making sure my client is satisfied and comfortable with his/her service because that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Naturalallure: What is the #1 concerns new clients have concerning their nail care?

Galesha: Everyone is different but I can say the most common concern I see with new customers is when it comes time to drill the nail new customers are very on edge and afraid that they will get nipped due to being cut previous times. If the tech takes their time and has the proper tool the drilling part of the service should be the least of a clients worries.

Naturalallure: How important is nail care to your overall health?

Galesha: Nail Care is very important there are a lot of infections and funguses that nails can carry. In my opinion the nails can be as beautiful as possible but if the nail is unhealthy I could care less about the art.

Naturalallure: Should nail care specialist take continued education classes?

Galesha: In this industry things are constantly changing. I believe continuing education is important for any type of profession. You have to be flexible and willing to change with the times. I make it a point to go to classes being I have a Cosmetology license I enjoy going to hair, nails, and make-up classes. Nails will always be my first love though.

Naturalallure: Would you ever open your own nail bar?

Galesha: Of course I have dreams of owning my own Nail Bar one day. I've been in this field for awhile and I've watched a lot of ways people run their business and I feel with my experience and just my characteristics I could successfully open my own when the time is right and when God see's fit.

Naturalallure: When I visited you, you did something that I have never had done. You offered to give me a manicure while having acrylic on my nails. I was blown away no one had ever asked or maybe didn't care enough to offer this service. Can you explain why this is important??

Galesha: I love doing manicures they take no time and they do so much for the nail as a whole! Keeping your cuticles pushed and cut is very important we use our hands on a day to day basis and dead skin is just building and building. It helps with lifting and long lasting polish. So whether my clients have acrylic or not we always incorporate manicures! They love soaking in the almond milk bath that comes with it to hydrate and soften the cuticle!

Naturalallure: What do you believe sets you apart from other nail specialist?

Galesha: I think what sets me apart is my personality. I'm very genuine and true to what I do. My clients are like family and we build relationships and they get to know me and vice versa I'm not all about who I can get to next I'm all for making sure they know I honestly care about their health and overall day to day life and making sure each person it completely satisfied when they leave. I love admiring other techs work we all have different ideas to bring to the table.

Naturalallure: Let people know where they can find you?

Galesha: I'm located in Norfolk, VA. I DO offer mobile services on Sundays and Mondays as well as bridal and spa parties.

This last picture is my own nails. I could not tell you about something and not try it out myself. During my visit with Galesha she asked me something that I had never been asked before. "Would you like a manicure?" Now of course I have had a manicure before, but never while having acrylic on my nails. This gave me the answer to the questions of how the cuticles of all her clients were always on point.

If you are looking for someone to take care of your nails and still keep you fly with the latest nail shape trends and you live in the Hampton Roads area or visiting, than I recommend you stop by and give her a try.

Style Stalking: Brandi

We are back at it for another Friday style stalk feature. This week I have the pleasure to bring to you a beautiful model from right here in the Hampton Roads area. She commands your attention when she walks in the room! There is no mistaken her especially since she recently made Jet's magazines beauty of the week.

There is no shortage of talent in Virginia, this much you should know. Brandi not only works it for designers & photographers, but she has a style of her own that landed her as our style stalk feature this week.

1. When did you fall in love with fashion?

I didn't fall in love with fashion until I was about 20 years old. It fascinates me like a form of artistic expression.

2. Who/What are your fashion inspirations?

My fashion inspirations right now are Victoria Beckam, and Rihanna. Though they are on 2 totally different sides of fashion, I still respect them equally because I haven't seen them fail with a look yet.

3. How would you describe your style?

My style is extremely diverse. If I had to sum it up though; I would say edge with a splash of chic!

Make sure that you follow Brandi on instagram for you daily dose of inspiration: @btsmitty

Brandi's style offers inspiration for the masses, she can change up like a chameleon. Style should be versatile, it should never lock you in one space. Style is art. Be an inspiration, while being inspired.
