My experience: Simply Stylist Conference

The past few weeks I have been gearing up for my first Simply Stylist Conference. I was beyond excited, thrilled to say the least. This experience as going to be so game changing for me. It was going to put me in a setting with people who have a similar mindset and career goals as I do.

What I would take away from this event would be priceless. Founder Sarah Boyd knew exactly what the industry needed when she created Simply Stylist. This event is geared towards bloggers, designers, brand owners, stylist and simply any entrepreneur who is looking to be inspired to continue building their empire.

Hosted by Catt Sadler of E! News, there was no shortage of amazing in the building. Interviews with some of the industries top experts and bloggers, there was no stone left unturned.

The day started with a VIP brunch, followed by a panel of style experts & fashion Icons.

I thought this picture was so ironic and true to the everyday life of a women. Catt Sadler & keynote speaker Jamie Chung doing the infamous tuck while Jamie shared her journey and gives some deets on her new blog whatthechung. She gave some amazing insight on her thoughts on blogging and how she doesn't take too serious, the most important thing is to love what you do.

The other keynote speaker Joe Zee was a bottle of energy and he definitely passed it on to everyone in the room. Joe Zee shared how he has maintained longevity in the fashion industry and he plans to continue to do what he loves until it is no longer fun. Joe Zee is now taking on the digital world by joining Yahoo to launch Yahoo mail. Listening to Joe Zee's story I felt like I went along with him on every adventure the fashion world could take him. It was interesting to learn that Zee had nay sayers early in his career, one person telling him he would never work for a magazine. Joe Zee has broken barriers in the fashion world and it was a life changing experience to her him tell about it.

The day did not end with those 2 iconic keynote speakers, the day was power packed with so many amazing people, pictured below are just a few of the people that shared their journey with us.

Jacey Duprie

Danielle Berstein

Left: Jessica Minkoff of Marie Claire Right: Elenor Mak of Keaton Row

Justin Anderson, Celebrity Hair Colorist

Madison Guest, Celebrity Stylist

Hannah Bronfman of Beautified & Jennifer Norman of Derma e were also in the building.

This event was absolutely amazing and  I will definitely be attending next year. I would love to go to a different city, since it is held in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. The things you will learn at this event will stay with you for a life time. I would also recommend you have the VIP experience, you will not regret it. Sarah Boyd made sure all attendees left knowing that they had just made a smart investment in their future.

VIP attendees walked away with some amazing gift bags, I mean what more can a girl ask for?

Don't just take my word for it, head over to simplystylist.com to learn more about past events & how you can attend in 2015.

Style Stalking: Mercedes S.

So we meet again, on our favorite day of he week, FRIDAY! You guys already know this is my favorite day of the week, because I get to share with you guys who I style stalked this week. I am excited to bring you Mercedes S., an aspiring fashion wardrobe stylist, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Style stalk is not just simply about show casing style, but more about highlighting the remarkable women behind the looks. Mercedes takes fashion and makes it her own, she has found her own lane and inspires the world to do the same.

1. When did you fall in love with fashion?
From what I can remember, I fell in love with fashion in middle school. I remember wanting all the latest Jordan's and Nike's. I was pretty much a huge sneaker head back then and now you can barely get me in a pair of sneakers lol. I would beg my parents to get me the Jordan's that were coming out at that time so I could get them before any of the boys at school. I would follow some of the trends that caught my eye, but at the same time put my own touches to them so that I could stand out from the rest. I never wanted to look like anyone else and noticing that made me reach deeper into fashion. At first I kind of thought that fashion and dressing nice was just something I was good at so it just became something I did and not something I lived. When I was younger I played basketball and had dreams of going off to college to play and then later on making it to the WNBA. It wasn't until high school that I finally realized and admitted to myself that fashion was something I was truly starting to love and basketball just wasn't for me anymore. God blesses us with many talents and things we are good at, but he also blesses us with a calling over our lives and I feel like fashion is what I'm supposed to do. I'm here to be an inspiration to people by showing them that it's ok to be different and express your personality through your choice of dressing. Just be you, be different, stand out, and wear what you love and what makes you happy!

2. Who/What are your fashion inspirations?
I love Kylie Jenner's style, but for the most part street fashion is what inspires me the most. I appreciate when people don't follow the mainstream rules of fashion and just go out there and create there own. There's a since of freedom and diversity in street style, I love it!

3. How would you describe your style?
I would say my style ranges from Grunge to Chic. I'm always switching it up depending on my mood and the places I'm going. My style is pretty diverse which I really love, because It doesn't limit me on what to wear or where to shop.

Makeup Mondays: Featuring Ariell Ash

Happy Monday everyone. I hope that everyone had an amazing weekend. I spent mine in New York, we will get into that a little later in the week. We are starting our week with some makeup tips from our resident makeup artist Ariell Ashe, she will be sharing with us one of her favorite drug store foundations.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

This make up Monday I want to highlight a particular foundation that I have been wearing for more than seven years which is Revlon color stay foundation. The formula that I use is for oily/combination skin. They do have a formula for dry skin although the color ranges in that formula tend to look sort of ashy on the skin. I have worked for two of the leading make up companies in the world and have found myself going back to this foundation. Don't get me wrong there are several foundations that I really do like but for the price point, color ranges, and the staying power I think that this foundation can compete with high end foundations. The consistency and beautiful coverage that this foundation provides reminds me of Mac Studio fix fluid but of course it is less than half of the price. Revlon color stay foundation is more of a medium coverage but it is buildable so you can definitely get full coverage out of it. The staying power is definitely up to 12 hours plus so you don't have to worry about your make up coming off after a couple of hours. So if you are ever in the market for a drugstore foundation and simply don't know which one to choose I would definitely recommend this foundation hands-down.

You can purchase Revlon Colorstays at your local drug store averaging $12.49.

Compared to Mac's studio dix fluid priced at $27.00, these two differ in price, but not in results.

Don't take our word for it, try it out for yourself and let us know what you think. Leave us a comment if you have already tried it and you would like to let us know what you think.

There you have it from the words of a professional makeup artist, you don't have to spend big bucks in order to get the best results.

Makeup Mondays: Featuring Ariell Ash

Happy Monday loves! We have been away for a while, but we are back with Makeup Mondays, featuring makeup artist Ariell Ash. This week Arielle will give us a bit of advice to help the everyday woman fit that beat face into her regular routine. How many times do you wake up and putting on makeup is the last thing you think about?? *Slips hand in the air* Well here are some tips to help cut your glam time in half.

Fabulous makeup look in 10 minutes

In this day and age everyone wants to look their absolute best. And most women that are into make up want to have a fabulous make up look. But often times we simply don't have 30 minutes to an hour to put into having that amazing face, especially those women who are in the work field and or have children. I am going to give you a few tips on how to achieve that fabulous face in 10 minutes.

Tip#1 Envision the make up look you are going for and have the products and make up tools laid out in the area you apply your make up the night before.

Tip#2 The kiss method. Using minimal amount of products. instead of contour and adding blush, just wear blush. Don't be afraid to step outside of your make up box. If you wear a liquid foundation and set it with a powder, try using a powder foundation or a cream to powder foundation to eliminate steps

Tip#3 Skip wearing eye shadow, you can never go wrong with a neatly done eyeliner and that perfect bold lip color. This is a look that is fabulous on all women. Apply your foundation and blush, Simply apply your eyeliner technique of choice, and add your favorite bold lip color.

I hope these tips make putting your best face forward a little easier.

Style Stalk: Nikki

Hello loves, it's Friday again and with that comes great style inspiration. You guys know this is my favorite day of the week, it is the day I get to show you guys who has inspired me. This fellow blogger does not just rock her vintage style, she knocks the socks off that mutha! (excuse my French.lol) When I came across Nikki I knew I had to feature her. Don't just take my word for it!

1.When did you fall in love with fashion?

I don’t think I ever fell in love with fashion it’s always just been an interest and love of mine. Ever since I was a kid I’m talking like 8 years old I would dress differently than other kids and I love expressing myself through my clothing.  I knew I wanted to work in fashion at a very early age.  That love affair never ended.

2. Who/What is your fashion inspiration?

I find fashion inspiration everywhere.  In interior design for pattern mixing or color options. I love men’s styling and find a lot of inspiration from that.  I love looking at Ralph Lauren ads.  Like most bloggers J. Crew is a huge inspiration. I love the styling they do.  I also don’t like to look like everyone else so I try to take things and make it my own.

3. How would you describe your style?

How would you describe your style? My style is all over the place and honestly I like it.  One day I’m preppy them rocker then feminine.  Again, I try to not to dress like everyone else, I just want to have fun with my clothes and I don’t take my style too seriously. I love anything vintage and I gravitate towards vintage pieces and thrift stores. I love the uniqueness of thrift stores and the one-of-a-kindness of them.

Now Nikki is a fashionista after my own heart. Nothing else brings me joy than a woman that knows exactly where she stands with her love for fashion. I can completely understand Nikki when she says she doesn't like to dress like everyone else. Quite frankly I find trends boring, however they do provide you with a outline and from there the possibilities are endless.

Make sure you follow Nikki's blog style-rehab.com to learn how you can learn how she can help you organize your closet and turn that old drab wardrobe into a fabulous work of art.

Style Stalking : Wendy

You guys know I am a sucker for all things vintage. All would not have be right in the world if I did not come across this amazing vintage beauty. This weeks style stalk is a vintage lover like myself and she is taking the world by storm one vintage fashionista at a time. Wendy has been featured on fashionbombdaily.com and in Atlanta Tastemaker Magazine. There is no mistaken the grace and style Wendy's gives to the vintage world Which is why she had to be this weeks style stalked. Don't take my word for it!!

1. When did you fall in love with fashion?
I have always loved fashion. As a little girl, I always loved wearing dresses. Getting dresses was always fun for me. I also grew up around a group of fashionable women. My mother always made sure we were well dressed when stepping out into the world.

2. What/Who is your fashion inspiration?
Anyone that knows me, will tell you my style inspiration is Diana Ross. Yes, Diana Ross! I have an old soul. Lol.  Her style is timeless, classic and sexy. Diana Ross is my fashion muse.  Solange Knowles and Tracey Ellis Ross are also my style inspiration but if you look at their styles you will see the root or the origination of their fashion is the one and only Diana Ross

3. How would you describe your style?
My style is more of classic modern day vintage. I enjoy adventures to my local thrift store to find amazing pieces to add to my wardrobe.  I believe a women can have a career, be fashionable and feel great. Sexy is being confident and looking like a lady. That's the message I like to send when I wear my clothes.

Well, Ms. Wendy we got the message loud and clear!

Hollywood Divas????

I believe that reality TV has hit a all time low. I have to say I was quite excited to tune in to Hollywood Divas tonight, given the fact that I admire most of the women on it. This view  took a turn for the worst the second the show aired. We are all used to the token mean girl, but usually she does not show her true colors for at least 2 episodes.

It was clear that all of the ladies are currently in the same stage of their careers, trying to figure out their next move. While Paul Jai seemed to have a solution and a way to bring the ladies together, she turns out to be harboring old feelings from decades ago. What started off as an amazing idea to bring black actresses together in Hollywood quickly turned into a shade throwing extravaganza.

Elise was a women that I looked up to because she has had longevity in a dog eat dog industry However I never imagined that she would be a nose in the air type of chic. This side of her she let show on last nights episode was not so pleasant. While Countess tries to figure out where all the animosity is coming from, new comer Lisa Wu defends her right to be among the ladies.

This is only episode one and these ladies can't seem to put their egos to the side long enough to have a conversation. Lisa Wu mentioned there was no content for black actresses in Hollywood, with the display of such infantile behavior this very well can be true. Black women have a hard enough time proving that they are more than attitude and neck rolls. I feel this show does not display them in a good light at all, and if anything they will lose more fans than they gain from this experience.

Reality tv can make or break a persons career. What started out as a look into the lives of the people we admire has turned into a display of circus like behavior. We have to do better!!.

What was your outtake on episode one? Will you tune in again?

Anytime I have the chance to support a fellow blogger, brand or business owner I will jump at the chance.
