Style Stalking: Altagracia

Today's style stalked is non other than the super beautiful Altagracia of inspiredbystyle.com. She is a stylish mommy on the go, she created her blog  her first blog in 2010. Like many of us she feared the judgment of putting something she held so near and dear to her heart out there for the world to see that she deleted it. However in 2013 she put the doubt to the side and launched inspiredbystyle.com and I am so glad that she did. We often look to celebrities for our style inspiration, but there are so many other sources for inspiration and I am so glad that I am across her blog. I hope that you are just as inspired as I was. By the way her blog is also available in Spanish.

1. When did you fall in love with fashion?

I fell in love with fashion at a very early age  for my birthday's when I was younger I would ask my mom for clothes and shoes instead of toys. I always wanted to wear something new to school every week so I made sure I had good grades so that my mom would reward me with clothes or a new pair of shoes.

2. Who/What are your fashion inspirations?

My style inspiration has to be Miroslava Duma she is so classy, chic , and sophisticated she can't do wrong in my eyes I love everything she wears.

3. How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style very conservative for my age yet chic , feminine , and comfortable you often catch me chasing around my two babies in order  to do that I have to wear flats and a good pair of boyfriend jeans.

I don't know about you, but I have been inspired. Let me know if there is someone that inspires you and why.

Good hair Wednesday: Naturals vs. Color f/master stylist Fawnne Smith

Self expression can be the light that your soul needs to shine. People feel like the very thing that makes them so special is their ability to share a little of themselves with the world. Some people use tattoos, others use piercings, in the natural hair community it is hair color!

@jd_winters shows us just how dope being a red head can be!

One of the biggest topic surrounding the natural hair community is color. Naturals wonder is this healthy for their hair, so many questions before they commit to taking that step. Well today I am happy to bring you an interview talking specifically about color with master stylist Fawnne Smith of Solan Noa in Virginia Beach, VA.

Q1. As a professional how do you feel about coloring natural hair?
I feel that it will enhance your hair, create volume, appear to give more length and dimension. It will take your natural hair to the next level.

Q2. Are there certain colors that should be avoided?
The lighter the color the more damaging the color can be to your hair.

Q3. What do you think is the number one contributing factor to the fear of color?
THAT IT WILL BREAK YOUR HAIR OFF  which is not true, you must moisturize your hair to avoid it from being dry.

Q4 . Is it ever ok to use box color?
No  Please do not use BOX COLOR  seek a professional.

Q5. Should you always consult a professional before coloring your hair?
YES.  You will need a consultation to see what color choice will look great with your skin complexion, eye color and what makeup choices will complement your new hair color.

Q6. What advice can you give about maintaining colored treated hair?
MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE AND MOISTURIZE
use moisturizing products on a daily basis and cocktail (add) with styling products. Also add moisturizing treatments on a weekly or biweekly schedule or add it to your hair care regimen.

Q7. What brand(s) can you recommend for color?
Any professional brand will work great.  I prefer pure pigment colors, they will last longer.  At Salon Noa we use Pravana, Redken, Clairol, Ion,  and Goldwell.

Q8. Is color damaging to your hair?
Permanent Color is not damaging.  Lightner or Bleach can be damaging to the hair, softening your texture and also affecting your curl pattern.

Q9. How often should you color your hair?
As often as needed to change or enhance color choice but no earlier than every two weeks.

Q10. What final words of encouragement/advice can you give naturals out there struggling with whether or not they should color their & how to care for it afterwards.
Having color can be temporary or permanent but seek a professional to give you a healthy color service for great results.

Monday beauty favs + more!!

Happy Monday to everyone, I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. I don't know about you, but I am glad to finally have some beautiful weather. So over the weekend I decided to test my makeup skills on a live person, other than myself. Doing my own makeup is a breeze, however when it comes to doing someone else's I get all kinds of nervous. I have had several people ask me to do their makeup and I just did not feel confident enough to try. That was until this weekend, I put my fears to the side and decided to go for it. Below are some of the goodies I used along with my 3 favs for this Monday.

I thought that I would share my journey on perfecting a craft that I very much enjoy doing as a hobby. I say as a hobby because I don't think that makeup is something that I want to do full time, but it is something I enjoy doing so much that I want to definitely learn all that I can about it. It is hard to display your learning process for the world to see, but I figure there might be someone out there just like me that can learn from the mistakes I make & share in my victory once I learn how to slay with the best of them..lol

A friend of mine ask me to do her makeup for a photoshoot, though a little nervous I told her I would need a test run to see how comfortable I would feel. Below are the before & after pictures. She loved her look, I know that I still have a lot of learning ahead of me but I am glad that I had the courage to give it a try.
