The Naturalista Hair Show: Natural is the New Black

Summer is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean that the fun has to end. This weekend every natural you know should be at the 3rd annual Naturalista Hair Show in Silver Spring, Maryland. For years there has been great attention on the major metropolitan areas for hosting some of the biggest, baddest natural hair shows around. Angela Walker, founder of The Naturalista Hair Show decided it was time for the DMV to get some of that shine. As the natural hair community grows there is a need for like minded natural to have a place to go network, learn and meet the faces behind some of their favorite brands.

This year promises to be packed with tons of education, hair talk and some amazing bloggers. As if the featured blogger heyfranhey wasn't already a treat, the show is being hosted by Ms. Monetizethyself herself NapturalNicole. If you have every been to an event were Nicole is in the building then you already know you are in for a REAL treat.

Style Stalk Friday: featuring Evelin

If I could say I loved one thing about blogging it definitely would have to be Style Stalk Friday. I thought about having people submit their entries for consideration, but it came to me that it would be super fun to hunt for them instead. I have featured tons of fashionsitas on the blog and I can truly say that this week's feature really made me realize why I do it the way that I do. Evelin is a fellow blogger and style maven in her own right. She caught my eye while patrolling (As I like to call it) the gram for fresh faces, but not only that someone who inspired me and I knew could inspire my readers as well.

Evelin is not only a blogger and an amazing fashionista she is also a Mommy. There is something about a woman who understands the importance of motherhood, even in the most fashionable of days you still have to be a mother FIRST! So it could have been a combination of her bubbling personality portrayed through her pictures coupled with the pictures of her adorable son that sealed the deal for me.

When did you fall in love with fashion?

There are some things we are naturally born loving or have a knack for. For me, its fashion and interior design, or whatever involves using my creativity. I discovered my passion for fashion when I was about three years old. As little girl I loved going into my mom and my aunt’s closet and put on their sequined dresses, and sparkly high heels. Playing dress up was always my favorite, and still is even ‘til this day. I can spend hours in the closet looking through clothes and trying to style them in different ways. I love everything about fashion. I love to wear it, style it, organize it, design it, and even decorate with it.

     Who/What are your fashion inspirations?

I believe that inspiration is all around us. I am inspired by art, architecture, interior design, fashion magazines, fashion bloggers and their personal style, music, food, nature, different cultures…just to name a few. I feel like fashion and interior design go hand in hand. When it comes to decorating or interior design I find myself drawing inspiration from fashion and vice versa. Sometimes I style an outfit inspired by the color scheme or style of a room…you’d be surprised to know the places where I find inspiration. Staying in tune with your surroundings and paying attention to the details is always important when looking for inspiration.

I am inspired by my mother, who is my shopping partner, my Godmother because she is a fearless fashionista. I also love the elegant and classic style of Coco Chanel, and the fun and very eclectic style of Fran Drescher as Ms. Fine on the show the “The Nanny.”

How would you describe your style?

I can say that my style is eclectic, but that answer wouldn't be enough. For those who know me, they would tell you I am experimental and adventurous when it comes to fashion, design, or anything I do in life in general. I find so much joy in discovering new ways to do things or wear a piece of clothing. For me, it’s all about versatility and finding a balance. I love mixing the traditional with the modern, giving the old new life, and giving the new some character. I may dress in a bohemian outfit one day, with a classy sophisticated outfit, or maybe something edgy, or minimalist. These looks may all be very different, but there’s one thing that they all have in common. There is a soft, feminine touch to every single one of my looks. So if I have to name my style, I would say my style is ladylike.

Don't let the inspiration stop here, make sure you follow Evelin on instagram @interiors_a_la_vogue

I want to know what things inspire you? Don't feel limited to just style.

Style Stalk Friday: featuring Fatmata

Hello there loves. I know it seems a million forevers since I posted a style stalk Friday, but I am back in full swing! I look forward to hunting down some serious trend setters. If this is your first time joining us allow me to fill you in on how this works. I search high and low for a fashionista I think has stalk worthy style and I feature her here on the blog. Currently I am not taking submissions, but I am sure that will happen in the future. Every feature is hand picked by me.

Now with that out the way let's get into this week's feature Fatmata. I love her style, she takes bold colors and makes them her play ground. With spring and summer right around the corner it is about time to start playing in those bright and bold colors.

When did you fall in love with fashion?

I fell in love with fashion at the age of twelve. While other kids were watching Disney Channel , I was watching Style Network, E, and looking at pictures on vouge.com

Who/What are your style inspirations?

I am inspired by Solange Knowles, Dita Von Teese and CoCo Chanel. CoCo was fabulous!

How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style more vintage with a modern twist.

This beauty sure knows how to light up a scene. Style is something you possess deep inside, it is something that know one else can have. You are your style and your style is you. Find your own fashion voice and stand out from the crowd. Thanks so much to Fatmata for inspiring us this week.

Make sure you head over and be inspired daily

Denim fever...

I hope everyone had a blessed Easter. The weather was on our side this weekend, mother nature is finally being kind to us. The beginning of spring is always a special time of year. Flowers and trees start to show signs of life, more people are out enjoying the beautiful weather. I figured this would be the perfect weather to rock my denim button up  from Old Navy.

There is something about denim that can just jazz up even the most mundane of looks. This top from Old Navy is extremely comfortable and is a very versatile piece. I think every stylista should have some denim in her wardrobe.

Top: Old Navy
Skirt: H&M
Shoes: lolashoetique
Necklace: H&M

This weather has definitely got my spirits on high, there is nothing like the sun shining on your face while the breeze delicately touches my skin. There is no reason why you shouldn't be out enjoying this beautiful weather and look good doing it.

Dining in the city: Sushi King, Downtown Norfolk

How many weekends have you spent trying to figure out what is there to do around your city. Mother nature has not been very kind to us with the frigid weather that we have been getting lately. With all of that being said, this weekend was reasonably warm in Hampton Roads so I took that opportunity to explore my city. Even though warm weather is a couple months away Downtown Norfolk still has some of the most amazing restaurants and it was my pleasure to stop in and pay the Sushi King Asian bistro & bar a visit. The Sushi King is a all you can eat sushi bar and the food & drinks are AMAZING!!

First thing I notices when I walked in was how well decorated it was, it was almost like it had two different feels to it. The perfect date night place or a night out with the girls.

The waiting area!

It's got such a city feel to it!

The food is so good. This is the Volcano rolls, they were amazing.
I also tried the Shrimp Tempura, Hibachi Shrimp & Steak. Everything
they brought out seemed to taste amazing.

Fully stocked bar with some great drinks, pictured below is the Cucumbertini

At the end of your experience you can have a go at the drum they have in the foyer.
Overall my experience at this restaurant was great. Our waitress was hilarious and kept us laughing all night. If you are a sushi lover this is the place for you.

Maybelline's Fit me Matte + poreless foundation

Hello loves,

I am sure most of you are familiar with the Maybelline cosmetic line. Well they recently released Fit me Matte + poreless. This foundation claims to mattify & refine pores, match natural tone and have a natural seamless finish.

Personally I love the Maybelline cosmetic line, for it to be a drug store foundation it does a pretty good job. I have also tried the regular Fit Me foundation and for us OILY girls it is a NO GO! Maybelline must have heard our cry, because this matte formula is prefect. It is light weight, easy to apply, blends well and most importantly it keeps me SHINE FREE all day. This foundation also comes with a press powder (sold separately) that I have not tried, however I do have the regular fit me powder in the shade 360 that I use as a contour. This foundation retails for around $6.00.

I can say that I am very pleased with how this foundation wears. I made sure to put it through the test of a long work day and it absolutely stood the test of time. The only two things I can say about this foundation is that I am in the shade 355 and it goes on a little red to me, also I did not see that there was any shade darker than 355. Come on Maybelline you have to give it up for the dark skin beauties too....  Besides those two issues I have nothing but good things to say about this foundation.
